Pretty interesting article on the human factors / learning issue of password memory. It discusses a system researchers are working on for people to remember passwords via game-based learning. Very much worth a read and definitely is a game-changer in terms of system security. They use a method similar to the Guitar Hero franchise where your fingers learn sets and patterns of keystrokes without actually remembering what the password is, which has the additional advantage of preventing compromise. Think of it like when you play the piano or guitar – you remember the movements necessary to play a song but not the notes themselves. I’ll discuss this at next HF meeting.
