Major William David "Fuzzy" Wells is the first Air Force officer to seek a Ph.D. at the Modeling, Virtual Environments, and Simulation (MOVES) Institute, Naval Postgraduate School located in Monterey, California. Maj Wells is a 1991 graduate from Georgia Tech with a Bachelors of Aerospace Engineering. In 1996, he earned an MS in Computer Systems from the Air Force Institute of Technology and was the first graduate to specialize in Modeling and Simulation. He built the first computer and imagery analysis facilities for the Space Warfare Center. Maj Wells was an Air University "Prime Warrior" instructor teaching Air Force officers the basics of modeling, simulation, wargaming, and the application of aerospace doctrine. In this capacity at the Air Force Wargaming Institute, he taught 25 courses at installations worldwide to over 1,000 personnel. Maj Wells also served as exercise designer and senior controller for numerous Prairie Warrior, NUTEX, and Ulchi Focus Lens exercises. In 2000, he was assigned to the Air Force Agency for Modeling & Simulation where he directed Air Force M&S participation in Joint Forces Command's Millennium Challenge 02 experiment. In 2002, Maj Wells was designated a Certified Modeling and Simulation Professional Charter Member.
