My research interests include:
  • computer graphics and virtual environments
  • coupling emerging technologies with systems for training and learning
  • human factors and presence in VR
  • evaluation of learning and training effectiveness in computer supported environments
  • design of novel training methodologies and pedagogies in support of learning and training with simulations and game-based systems
  • diffusion of innovation: design, dissemination, deployment, and use of simulations and game-based systems for learning and training in the context of needs exercised by the majority of their users (large scale adoption issues)
  • multiuser communication and collaborative environments
  • videoconferencing
  • hybrid systems - a mix of different technologies and approaches used for learning and training
  • broadband networking and applications specially designed to harness such capabilities (Internet2)
Guiding principles of my work are:
  • providing a unified understanding of the phenomena - interconnecting the issues related to the technology, human factors and instructional strategies specially designed to maximize the potential that lies in specific technology (or a combination of different technologies)
  • correlating basic and applied research
  • working with domain (end) users
