Purpose: The purpose of this demonstration is to show the use of humanoid models within a distributed virtual environment.
Approach: Humanoid avatars in virtual environments enhance the visual realism of a scene and provide opportunity for natural interactions with users of the virtual environment. In the Pearl Harbor demonstration, a humanoid model is inserted into the Web-based 3D environment with a predefined movement path. Information about the model can be distributed to other users through Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) packets. The demonstration also shows a possible scenario for conducting foreign language training by showing humanoid avatars in particular situations to which the human user must respond. Humanoid models demonstrated in the XMSF demonstrations follow the H-Anim standard (see http://h-anim.org/).
Plan of Action: In list format, provide dates and planned accomplishments
